Return to Work Programs

Aims

Our aim is to give each client the best possible opportunity to regain his or her place as a valued member of the workforce.

We provide support and guidance for the person who is looking to return to their former job or seeking to be placed in a new job.

A detailed initial assessment of the individual and the workplace needs assists us in developing a comprehensive program for each client, to assist them re-join the workforce.

Suitable patients

We assist people with a broad range of disability, from those with minor difficulties to those with complex physical, neurological and cognitive impairments.

Members of our team

Our experienced interdisciplinary team includes:

• Occupational therapist
• Vocational counsellor
• Exercise physiologist
• Consultant psychologist
• Rehabilitation physician

Some of the things our patients do

• Activities to establish physical capabilities such as flexibilty, strength and dexterty
• Activities to establish cognitive abilities such as memory and problem solving exercises
• Complete graded activity and exercise programs such as carpentry, metal work and gym programs to improve work readiness
• Receive information and education on working safely and within their individual limits
• Participate in individually tailored return to work programs

These programs allow work to restart gradually in terms of both time and duties.

To make a referral

We accept referrals from medical practitioners, allied health professionals, nursing staff and insurance companies.  Individuals and families may also make referrals.  To make a referral, simply call (03) 9566 2777.

Further information for health professionals

The vocational services team completes assessments and provides intervention to clients with neurological and/or orthopaedic injuries (generally resulting from trauma) and clients who experience chronic pain.

The team has access to a range of equipment and facilities, which include:

• Standardised assessments (West, Valpar)
• Fully staffed and equipped gymnasium, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy areas
• Computer facilities
• Fully equipped and staffed carpentry and metal trades workshops

The vocational services team specialise in the development of a comprehensive program for clients to consolidate their gains by returning to safe, satisfying and productive work and community activity.
