Drug and Alcohol Program

The Alcohol and Drug Program at Pine Rivers Private Hospital combines state-of-the-art treatment techniques with a caring and professional approach for people suffering from alcohol and substance problems.

Philosophy
The philosophy of the Alcohol and Drug Program is that alcohol and drug dependence are serious psychobiological syndromes that, if untreated, cause major morbidity and premature mortality.

These syndromes represent a “propulsive force” that drives the person’s use of alcohol and other substances despite the harm that it causes.

Pine Rivers Private Hospital provides a safe, non-judgmental environment to assist people with their detoxification, treatment and rehabilitation.

Treatment Program
It is the aim of the program to give people greater capability to manage their own lives, to enhance physical and mental health, and to help them achieve and maintain abstinence from drugs and alcohol.

The abstinence-oriented treatment program focuses on the whole person by embracing the physical, psychological, social and emotional needs of each individual.  The program involves:

  • Medical treatment tailored to the needs of the individual
  • Pharmacotherapies appropriate to the particular substance dependence
And the development of essential skills including:
  • Stress management
  • Relaxation training
  • Relapse prevention
  • Communication and relationship skills
  • Emotional awareness
  • Crisis management
  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Self esteem
These skills will assist the patient in:
  • Recognizing drug and alcohol dependency issues
  • Accepting personal responsibility for lifestyle changes
  • Developing and utilizing ongoing supports in the community
