A NEW maternity wing will open at Norwest Private Hospital on Thursday to accommodate growing demand for its maternity services. There have been more than 2800 births at the hospital since it opened in September 2009. General Manager Deborah Fogarty said the ward now had a capacity for up to 2500 births each year. Another 12 obstetricians and gynaecologists will join the hospital as a result of the expansion, and a total of 45 visit the ward regularly.

A NEW renal dialysis unit at Norwest Private Hospital has made treatment more accessible for patients with kidney failure. Kidney specialist Vincent Lee said the treatment involved patients hooked up to a machine which filtered their blood to remove waste and extra fluids three times a week for up to four hours at a time. "People may need dialysis when the kidney function drops to about 10 per cent," he said.

JUST over a year since Norwest Private Hospital opened it has been given the go-ahead to expand. The hospital has admitted more than 28,000 patients in the past year and treated a further 13,000 through the emergency department. The Hills Council has approved plans for an additional ward and operating theatre, due to be completed in May. General Manager Deborah Fogarty said beds would increase from 170 to 213.

CHRISTMAS can be a dismal time for many Australians. With this in mind, Norwest Private Hospital has joined forces with the Salvation Army's Christmas toy appeal. The hospital has set up a Christmas wishing tree in the front foyer. It was decorated by the Pink Ladies, the volunteer staff at Norwest. Hospital general manager Deborah Fogarty asked the staff, patients and visitors to choose a gift tag from the tree and return it with a gift to the hospital for collection by the Salvos on December 21.
Ms Evans, who grew up in Kellyville, held several fund-raising events at Norwest Private Hospital last month to raise money for breast cancer research. She said her support stems from "passion". "My grandmother died of breast cancer when she was young . . . so I've always had a passion to make a difference in women's lives," she said.

The maternity unit at the Norwest Private Hospital will open its doors to mums and dads-to-be as part of its celebrations for International Day of the Midwife tomorrow.
