Pharmacy and Medication ServicesThe pharmacists visits the wards on a daily basis to review patient medication needs. He / she is available for patient education when required. Please let your nursing staff know if you need to speak to the pharmacist or if you require an information sheet printout about your medication. Please ensure that you fully understand your medications prior to discharge. Please ensure that any medication that you normally take at home is brought into hospital with you, as you will be charged by the pharmacy for any extra you require of these prescriptions. You will be responsible for the cost of any medications that have been provided by our pharmacy service that are for conditions not directly related to your reason for admission. You will be billed for these items on discharge. Medication not presented in the prescribed container or packaging with identification cannot be administered by nursing staff. Webster packs and dosettes that have already been prepared cannot be used by our staff and alternative arrangements will have to be made. We apologise for any inconvenience that this causes, but have designed this policy to ensure your safety. Patient medications are locked away at all times, usually in the top drawer of your beside locker. This drawer is for medication only and it is recommended that it not be used for storing valuables. Only registered nurses have access to these locked drawers. It is their job to administer your medication (please do not self-medicate even if you are used to doing so at home) so that there is no inadvertent doubling-up of medications. Please ensure that your medications are safe from young visitors. |
