The Southwest Clinic 

The Southwest Clinic is an 18 bed Psychiatric Unit within Sydney Southwest Private Hospital, staffed by psychiatrists, and nursing staff using a multi-disciplinary team approach.  Our clinic has several single and shared rooms each with their own phone, television and most rooms with their own ensuites.

We have a panel of psychiatrists accredited to the Unit.  Each residential patient will have one of these consultants appointed to manage their care. Our specialised staff are dedicated to: 

• Understanding each person's individual needs throughout all stages of therapy;
• Providing a caring and supportive environment for treatment;
• Respecting the need for the privacy of each person;
• Providing patients with skills to cope with difficulties, as they arise;
• Addressing related issues such as personal conflict, spiritual needs, marital, family or work related problems;
• Treating each person with dignity and respect.
   

Our treatment program addresses a range of psychiatric disorders.

• Focusing on the psychological aspects of your psychiatric disorder;
• Helping the individual improve their coping responses to these disorders;
• Addressing ways to better manage everyday situations such as relationships, stress, anger and disappointment as well as identify issues related to unemployment and family.

Group therapy programs are offered on either an inpatient or day patient basis, depending on the needs of the patient. Individual therapy sessions are available as seen to be appropriate.

We also offer a fortnightly support group for relatives and friends of the patient.  The aim of this program is to help them to gain an understanding of mental health issues that has resulted in their relatives staying in the Southwest Clinic.

Maternity

We have a 22-bed Maternity Unit, with a six-bed Level 2 Special Care Nursery, and three birthing suites.  Our nursery is staffed 24 hours a day by neonatal intensive care qualified nurses and doctors.

We are a family-centred unit where fathers are encouraged to participate in the care of their new baby.  We hold regular pre-pregnancy evenings to help provide you with the best start to your pregnancy.

 

Surgical Services

Sydney Southwest Private Hospital provides an extensive range of surgical services.  We have a multi-disciplinary team skilled in the provision of care for all levels of surgical intervention.  Around-the-clock cover is provided by experienced medical officers to ensure that each patient receives immediate attention, should an emergency arise. All surgical patients are managed by their consultant surgeon of choice.

 

Operating Suite

Our operating suite has five operating theatres, and a 12-bed recovery unit, all with new, state-of-art equipment.  We provide a wide range of surgery with approximately 60 visiting surgical practitioners and 40 anaesthetists.  We operate from Monday to Friday, and after hours by arrangement.

 

Angiography Suite

The Angiography Suite was established in 1999 and has a team of cardiologists, specialised nursing staff, radiographer, and support staff.  The latest advances in technology allow patients to be admitted to the unit for intensive investigation and treatment, and often return home on the same day.
