Aged PsychiatryThe program involves the assessment and management of patients aged 60 and over who require treatment for a mental health problem. The program operates within a context of understanding the interaction between the psychological, physiological and social effects of the ageing process. The multidisciplinary approach is of particular importance for this age group. The clinical expertise of various health professionals results in optimal patient management and combines to provide the basis for appropriate interventions. For example, the input of the occupational therapist includes assessment and therapy for everyday functioning, and the psychosocial focus of the social worker provides community support and resources.
The Outreach Program can also provide mental health treatment through individual visits conducted in the home or community.
An appropriate treatment option can be decided by you in consultation with your doctor.
