  • General Inpatient Program (Living Well Program): The Living well program provides adult relevant therapeutic programs to inpatients who are not involved in any of the specialist programs. It offers patients the opportunity to learn and practise new skills, discuss issues relevant to recovery, receive information, learn from others, enjoy creative activities, get some exercise and have some fun.
     
  • Professorial Unit:
    The Professorial Mood Disorders Unit is a 25-bed unit within The Melbourne Clinic providing specialised treatment for mood disorders with complex diagnostic and management problems.  Professor Isaac Schweitzer, who is the Director of the Unit, is also the Healthscope Chair of Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne. He is a national and international expert in the management of mood disorders. The Unit accepts referrals from General Practitioners, Psychiatrists and other medical practitioners. Patients receive a comprehensive evaluation from the multidisciplinary team, a management program is developed and initiated and patients are customarily referred back to their referrer for ongoing treatment. The Unit also has an extensive range of research projects.
     
  • Herbert Bower Unit – Older Adults Mental Health: Staff in the Herbert Bower Unit provide psychiatric services to people aged over 60 years who have mental illness in later life.  The program is second to none in Australia and is staffed by psychiatrists who are well-respected leaders in their field.
     
  • Substance Withdrawal Program: This is usually a seven-day program providing high quality professional care and support for people withdrawing from alcohol and other drugs. The program aims to start a process of recovery from substance dependence and offers help with the physical, emotional, relationship and spiritual dimensions of addiction.  The process of maintaining recovery is an ongoing one.  Longer-term support is also available either by the clinicians in the group or via a structured rehabilitation program at The Victorian Addiction Centre. 
  • Substance Rehabilitation Program: An established and dedicated team of mental health professionals work with each client to set goals within an achievable care plan. This program assists clients to restore and maintain independence enabling quality of life by providing life enhancing strategies for clients and their families. 
     
  • Anxiety and Depression Program: A specialist group-based program designed to help people manage symptoms associated with anxiety or depression in order to live, our approach emphasises the idea that our feelings and behaviour are shaped by the way we think about ourselves and the world. This is a two-week structured program and offers participants a supportive environment to make positive changes in their lives.  Participants stay for two weeks as an inpatient with the opportunity to join our day programs as a bridge to integrating their new skills in their daily living. For more information, click here
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ProgramThe OCD Program at The Melbourne Clinic is a highly specialised national treatment program for people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders.  The OCD program applies state of the art evidence-based treatment protocols focussing specifically on detailed education sessions about OCD, behavioural treatments of OCD (Exposure and Response Prevention) and some of the latest cognitive therapy interventions for the appraisals associated with intrusive and obsessional ideas. The OCD program commenced is designed as a two-week intensive course in CBT approaches for OCD. There are a number of phases or stages that people with OCD pass through (or sometimes don’t) before they can successfully achieve significant reduction in their symptoms and maintenance of this over the long-term. To view information on these phases,click here. 
     
  • Eating Disorders Program: This program has been specifically designed to help access people with eating disorders.  The aim is to provide a safe and trusting environment that fosters the restoration of health and weight and explores the underlying issues that accompany the illness.
     
  • Intensive Care Unit: This unit is an eight-bed unit within The Melbourne Clinic which offers a higher level of intensive treatment. The Melbourne Clinic also provides a wide range of outpatient treatment options through multi-disciplinary teams based in Day Programs and the Outreach service including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Depression Management, Anxiety Treatment, Mindfulness, Psycho-social and Eating Disorders.
