Emergency Department
The Emergency Department at John Fawkner Private Hospital provides treatment of acute emergencies 24 hours, seven days a week. Anyone suffering from an injury or an acute medical, surgical or cardiac problem can access the Emergency Department regardless of insurance status, however a facility fee is applicable.
Critical Care Complex
The Critical Care Complex is a five-bed intensive care and six-bed coronary care bed facility designed to care for sicker patients who require intensive monitoring. The equipment in the Unit, and the specially qualified staff who work within it, ensure that our patients have access to a high level of medical and nursing technology.
Dependency Unit
A four-bed Dependency Unit provides extra care for surgical patients when required. Patients are provided with a comprehensive range of support and advisory services, including a stomal therapist, diabetes advisory team, dietetics, a social worker, cardiac rehabilitation program, inpatient physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
Endoscopy/Day Surgery Unit
The Endoscopy/Day Surgery Unit at John Fawkner Private Hospital is a well-equipped department with up to date equipment including a modern video endoscopy system and colour photography that provides clear vision during gastroscopy and colonoscopy and instant prints of pathology seen during the examination.
Short Stay Centre
Our Short Stay Centre, located on Level 1 (west), is a 12-bed unit designed to meet the needs of patients who have undergone surgery, or patients admitted from the Emergency Department, who require a short stay in hospital before they recover sufficiently to return home.
Orthopaedic Unit
The specialised Orthopaedic Unit has been designed and equipped to provide a high level of care and comfort for orthopaedic patients. John Fawkner Private Hospital has a broad range of services, which combine to form a comprehensive orthopaedic care program. Orthopaedic Surgery is a major focus at John Fawkner.
Cardiology Services
Through its close liaison with local general practitioners, John Fawkner Private Hospital offers the people of Melbourne’s northwest a high standard of care across an extensive range of cardiac services. Patients with acute chest pain, or suspected heart attack, can be admitted directly to John Fawkner Private Hospital for assessment and immediate treatment. A Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) unit is stationed on-site at John Fawkner Private Hospital, and access is also available via the standard ambulance service.
A Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is available for patients who have angina, coronary heart disease or who have undergone heart surgery. The Rhythm of Life program commences during hospitalisation and continues after patients have been discharged and helps to prevent the recurrence of ill health. Education topics covered include diet, exercise, stress management, understanding of coronary heart disease, basic life support skills and learning how to identify early warning signs.
Oncology Services
Our Oncology services at John Fawkner Private Hospital consist of on-site consulting rooms with specialist Oncologists, an outpatient Day Chemotherapy Unit and an inpatient specialty ward. Patients with cancer, and their families, are provided with a comprehensive range of services that can be accessed in order to facilitate care at John Fawkner Private Hospital. With a team of specialist nursing and medical staff we aim to provide patients and their families with an environment conducive to optimal and innovative care, which incorporates current cancer treatments.

The Physiotherapy Department at John Fawkner Private Hospital provides quality inpatient care servicing all wards, with special emphasis on respiratory and orthopaedic physiotherapy, to maximise mobility and function.
