Accreditation

The Victorian Addiction Centre is accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (www.achs.org.au).  Following our most recent accreditation survey in October 2004, we were pleased to receive the following commendations:

  • The assessment process is commended.  It is first undertaken at the time of referral within the acute care setting, to determine the patient’s suitability to commence a rehabilitation program, to do a risk analysis and to plan care needs in order of a safe, comprehensive program.
  • The attention to detail in planning care, which addresses issues, related to physical, social and emotional health is commendable.
  • There is a comprehensive occupational health, safety and injury management resources manual that has formed the basis for ensuring that risks associated with manual handling were not only being identified, but addressed. Staff are to be commended for this achievement.
The Victorian Addiction Centre strives for continuous improvement in the quality of its services.  We have developed and are continually reviewing our quality action plan to achieve this.  Some of the key projects include:
  • A research project to measure the outcomes of the specific intervention, neuromuscular facilitation, in the client with chronic pain.  Findings presented at the 26th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australian Pain Society, April 2006. Staff have been asked to publish findings in the journal for this association.
  • Falls working party & implementation of traffic light system to alert staff to risk of client falling
  • Trial of ‘Balance of Care’ project. This is a system to ensure the correct mix and number of nursing staff are rostered for each shift to maximise the quality of patient care.
Please contact the General Manager if you have any questions about the accreditation or quality improvement program.
