Admission requirements
Your doctor will arrange admission for your surgery to Como Private Hospital. In order to assist us to make your admission as smooth as possible, please complete the admission forms from your Doctor and return to the hospital at least 48 hours prior to your admission.
The Patient Liaison Nurse will call you prior to admission. They will update your admission time, clarify your clinical history and provide fasting and/or medication requirements for the day.
They will contact your 1-2 days post discharge to check your progress and receive feedback you may have regarding your admission. Please notify the nursing staff if you do not wish to be contacted post discharge.
If you are having surgery:
Please bring the following with you:
- Current medications in original container and a list of these medications. If not know please obtain a list from your GP.
- Xrays if relevant.
- Health insurance details.
- Pensioner or Concession cards.
- Medicare card.
- TAC/Workcover patients please bring accident details and letter of approval.
- Do not bring jewellery, valuables or cash with you to the hospital (except money for out-of-pocket expenses as advised by hospital staff). We do not take responsibility for valuables and personal belongs brought to the hospital.
- Bring night attire and toiletries if you are expecting an overnight stay.
- Do not bring night-wear, dressing gown or slippers for day surgery. The Unit will provide you with a theatre gown, a dressing gown and slip on shoes for you to wear.
- Do not wear make up, nail polish or acrylic nails.
- You are advised to refrain from smoking for 24 hours prior to your procedure.
Preparing your child for admission:
- If your child is to be admitted for surgery, it is possible to visit the hospital beforehand and meet nursing and ancillary staff.
- Visiting by parents is unrestricted and, wit prior arrangement, a parent is welcome to stay overnight.
- Please pack a favourite toy or book.
- Children must be observed to make sure they do not eat or drink before the operation.
