In-Vitro-Fertilisation UnitTasmanian IVF operates from a site within St Helen’s Private Hospital. It was one of the first IVF units to be established in Australia and began treating patients in 1983. It is currently the largest IVF unit in Tasmania. The IVF unit has a team of highly dedicated and experienced Doctors, Nurses, Scientists, and a Counsellor, all of whom are involved in the daily management of patient care during treatment. IVF staff aim to provide an environment that is caring and supportive for all of it’s patients. Department of Psychological MedicineThe Department of Psychological Medicine has 31-bed inpatient unit, a general day patient program, specialist outpatient programs and an ECT service. The unit is staffed by a caring team comprising a staff psychiatrist, medical officer, registered psychiatric and general nurses, and clinical psychologists. Our patients are encouraged to participate in a range of therapeutic group activities and individual counselling sessions designed to provide crucial support and help smooth their return to their community. Specialist Outpatient ProgramsAnxiety Management Program: An 8 week specialist program which aims to provide participants with the skills and confidence to assist with the long term management of their anxiety and panic so as to improve their functioning and general quality of life. Addictive Behaviours Program: An 8 week evening program, which aims to provide participants with assistance to make positive changes to their lives so that alcohol and drug abuse is no longer a controlling, negative factor. Depression Management Program: Designed to specifically support those people experiencing ongoing difficulties living with depression. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: The DBT program is over a 10 week period and aims to offer sufferers of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) skills training which focuses on improving emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance along with mindfulness skills - all of which can reduce the suffering which is so often associated with BPD.
